Every brand that works with turmeric tells you it is anti-inflammatory, antioxidant-rich, and rooted in centuries of Ayurvedic use. All of that is true. None of it explains what we do differently - or why it matters.
The difference is not in the plant. It is in what survives the extraction.
Why extraction method is the product
Turmeric contains hundreds of bioactive compounds. The ones responsible for its most significant effects - particularly the sesquiterpene fraction, including ar-turmerone and α-turmerone - are volatile and thermolabile. They degrade rapidly above 50°C.
Most extraction methods operate at temperatures that destroy exactly these compounds. What survives is curcumin - heat-stable, well-studied, widely marketed - but a fraction of the plant's full bioactive profile, and one that absorbs poorly through the skin.

Conventional Method 100°C+ - Steam distillation temperature. Volatile sesquiterpenes - including turmerone - are largely destroyed before the extract is formed. 3–5% - Turmerone in the resulting oil. The 5-step extraction process
1. Raw Material: Dried turmeric rhizomes sourced from Erode, Tamil Nadu. Pre-screened for heavy metals and pesticide residue.
2. Pressurisation: CO₂ is brought above its critical point - 31°C, 74 bar - entering a supercritical phase with the diffusivity of a gas and the solubility of a liquid.
3. Extraction: Supercritical CO₂ passes through the plant material at below 40°C. Lipophilic bioactives - including the full turmerone fraction - dissolve selectively.
4. Separation: Pressure reduces in a separator vessel. CO₂ reverts to gas and evaporates. The concentrated, solvent-free extract collects.
5. Verification: HPLC testing confirms turmerone concentration at ~60%. Batches held in our 5-year inventory - consistent quality, no supply variation.
Why water-free is not a trend
Most cosmetic formulations - including most "natural" ones - are 60-80% water. Water is cheap, safe, and creates the light textures consumers expect. It is also the reason most formulations require emulsifiers, stabilisers, and preservatives: water supports microbial growth, and without preservation, it is a liability.
Removing water removes all of that. Every ingredient that remains is active - there is no carrier, no filler, no diluent. The formulation is inherently shelf-stable without synthetic preservatives. And because there is no water to emulsify, the actives are delivered directly in a lipophilic base that mirrors the skin's own lipid structure.

Why oils - and why daily
Abhyanga - self-massage with oil - is a foundational practice in Ayurvedic Dinacharya (daily routine). The classical texts recommend it for overall skin health, circulation, and nervous system balance. The practice has been continuous for millennia across Indian households, not as ritual for its own sake, but because the outcomes are visible and consistent.
Parama formulations are designed around this principle, adapted for a life that does not have an hour in the morning. A 2-minute daily application - post-shower, leave-on - delivers the core benefits of the Abhyanga practice without the elaborate ritual. Non-greasy, non-staining, absorbed within minutes. The carrier oils are cold-pressed, selected for their own bioactive profiles - sesame for warmth and penetration, coconut for antimicrobial and emollient properties, rosehip for its retinoic acid precursor fraction, kokum for its dry-oil skin-barrier action. Each one is there because it does something specific. Nothing is there to fill volume.
Regulatory note (internal): This page avoids therapeutic claims - "lubricates joints," "improves digestion," "stimulates the lymphatic system" have been removed from all copy. Language stays in the cosmetic register throughout: "soothes," "nourishes," "supports," "eases."
